december (!!! WHAT?!?!) ( + november re-cap)

unbelievable. this year flew by. and so much happened! still more to come, so i went rattle off all my sentiments of 2012 yet. december will rule because: one of my best friends is getting married to a wonderful man, jon's grandmother will celebrate her 70th birthday, my nephew will be celebrating his 6th birthday, there will bea small reunion of my favorite high school gals (eek.. 10 years almost!), and i will unabashedly participate in christmas time cheer.

seis de mayo picnic

last sunday we gathered up some friends, bocce balls, croquet mallets and some downright amazing food for a relaxing picnic at the menil park.

it was seriously the most beautiful picnic i've ever been to... amanda brought lots of antique picnic gear from her workplace and we all dined in early-19th-century danish style.

andie came up with a new fun game, where you read the new york times weddings & celebrations section out loud. it's kind of like people watching without being with the people, or our own version of talk soup. ah, if only joel mchale came to this picnic.

and then we abandoned croquet and put our circus skills to use. thank goodness nobody got hurt!

cristina won the award for most croquet-like attire..

stars & stripes & prisms & lights at settlement goods

my friend amanda commissioned a congrats card for her to give to the owners of houston's newest store, settlement goods. she wanted a stars to go with the prism windows she created for their opening.

this was fun for me... a big departure from all the pink & girly stuff i've been doing lately.



a few weeks later i visited the store with amanda and was blown away by the careful selection of all the products. each product is made in USA, which is pretty amazing considering how many of the products we actually own are farmed out for cheap labor.

it drives me crazy that there's isn't a higher demand for american-made goods. but hey, i'm totally guilty of buying the cheaply made stuff from old navy, target, banana, outlet malls, etc. etc. (hey, these are some of my fav stores!) but i digress...

settlement goods is definitely a treat for cool jewelry and clothing...
